Chapter 2
Let's Do This Together!
As someone who has written her own novel and is currently working on a fantasy series, I understand how overwhelming the book-writing process can be.
It’s so much more than “I have an amazing idea for a story, so let’s write it down.” There’s marketing, cover design, finding ARC readers, editing, developmental editing, and so much more.
That’s why I make your journey as easy as possible! What’s more, I help you cut the cost.
Before we start any service, I always schedule a quick call with you to discuss your story and your goals. This helps ensure we’re on the same page and allows me to give you the most meaningful feedback possible.
This is usually the first stage of editing author go through. During developmental editing, I will look at your story as a whole and focus on the following things:
Plot structure: Does the story work the way your intended it to work? Here I look at the presence of plotholes, but also inconsistencies in your timeline and overall pacing of your story.
Character development: Are your characters engaging and realistic? Do they undergo the growth you intended for them and is their personality consistent throughout the story?
Tone of voice: Is the voice you use in your narrative appropriate for your genre? Does it engage, but also: does it work the way you intended it to work?
Point of view: Is your point of view consistent and effective? If you change perspective, is the reader able to follow whose perspective it is.
Worlbuilding: Are the rules in your world consistent and believable?
You will receive your feedback in the shape of an editorial letter of no more than 2000 words.
This stage of editing focuses less on the story itself and more on readability and clarity.
In this stage I check for:
Spelling
Punctuation
Tense
Formatting
Flag minor logic issues
Ensure names, terminology, and stylistic choices remain consistent throughout the manuscript.
The goal is a clean, polished text that allows readers to stay fully immersed in your story without distractions. This will be done through inline editing and comments.
I value close contact with the authors I work with, so I am always open for a chat. This can be through a video call or written message, whichever you prefer.
